About Vacheron Constantin
Vacheron Constantin, the world’s oldest watch manufacturer, has enjoyed uninterrupted activity since its founding in 1755. A full-fledged watch manufacturer, it masters the complete creative process, including research and development of movements, the aesthetic definition of each model, the full set of stages in designing and crafting the watch components, and finally, the application of hand-crafted finishing. The company has developed its business in almost 80 countries around the world, distributed through 29 exclusive boutiques and a network of around 340 carefully selected points of sales.
Patrimony Traditionnelle Calibre 2253
Vacheron Constantin presents the Patrimony Traditionnelle Calibre 2253 timepiece, in pink gold case. Entirely constructed by Vacheron Constantin’s engineering department and developed over several thousands of hours, the Calibre 2253 provides information derived from Earth’s orbit around the sun, notably a perpetual calendar, the equation of time and the times of sunrise and sunset. It features as well a tourbillon escapement as well.
The equation of time is probably the most fascinating complication in this outstanding model. Its purpose is to indicate the difference in minutes between the variable solar time shown by a sundial and the constant mean time of clocks and watches. Making this complication work does indeed call for particular skill. It depends on the equation cam, a waisted oval, shaped like a figure 8 and calculated according to the daily declination of the sun observed from a given spot. The cam rotates once a year while a hand following its countour indicates the equation of time at between 10 and 11 o'clock on the dial of the Patrimony Traditionnelle Calibre 2253 timepiece.
This timepiece also displays other functions, including the times of sunrise and sunset throughout the year at a given locality – chosen by the client - the tourbillon carriage, as always in the shape of the brand emblem, a Maltese cross, rotates once a minute at 6 o'clock and it coupled to a small seconds indication. The indications of the perpetual calendar are symmetrically laid out with the days, the months and the dates at 9, 12 and 3 o'clock respectively. The leap-year indicator makes a circumspect appearance on the upper left.
Despite supporting extra mechanical complexity, the Calibre 2253 – bearing the Hallmark of Geneva - exhibits a breathtaking amount of power reserve – some 336 hours or 14 days of running time drawn from two pairs of coupled barrels. The power reserve is shown through the sapphire-crystal caseback.
Malte Tourbillon Regulator “Boutiques Exclusive” Timepiece
In choosing the Malte Tourbillon Regulator to present one of the Vacheron Constantin “Boutiques Exclusive” timepieces, Vacheron Constantin is using shape to express its horological savoir-faire. The characteristic lugs provide the ultimate in comfort, and the integration of the strap and case is optimised by the new satin-finished lug-covers. Water-resistant to 30 metres, the case is enhanced with a domed sapphire crystal that prolongs the lines of the bezel.
The tonneau case has always been an integral part of Vacheron Constantin’s history, the master watchmakers have designed a mechanical movement that fits perfectly into this geometric shape; this expression of art for art’s sake in horological terms is also one of the hallmarks of authentic haute horlogerie timepieces. So, at the heart of this exceptional watch beats the 1790R calibre, designed, developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin, this manual-winding movement features a 40-hour power reserve indicator. Embellished with meticulously-worked decorations and finishing, this manual-winding mechanical movement houses two subtle complications that are among the most prized by genuine watch lovers: tourbillon and regulator display.
The Malte Tourbillon Regulator “Boutiques Exclusive” version comes with a black dial in pink gold case. With a black hand-stitched, saddle-finish alligator strap, comes with a matching precious pink gold folding clasp and polished half Maltese cross.
Métiers d’Art Lady Kalla Flame
Created by the most gifted craftsmen of Vacheron Constantin, this jewellery watch is dressed in flame-cut diamonds that give time a new personality. Patented in 2004, the flame-cut is the first cut in twenty years to be officially recognized by the GIA (Gemmological Institute of America). The flame-cut diamond is distinguished by its perfectly proportioned and resolutely feminine contours. The intersections of these facets have been designed with mathematical precision to obtain a perfect combination of radiance and diffusion of light. With its 57 facets, the flame-cut is the only one with both a right and a left cut, for which a specific setting had to be developed. This cut is unique in Haute Horlogerie to Vacheron Constantin. Each set of precious stones is selected with meticulous care to ensure that it complies with the strictest criteria regarding purity, colour and cut to guarantee perfect uniformity.
The Métiers d’Art Lady Kalla Flame is equipped with the manual-winding Calibre 1005 with the crown positioned on the back of the movement. This fabulous timepiece is brought to life by the brilliance of 80 diamonds set on the case and dial, with a total weight of approximately 12 carats. The case dressed in white gold and embracing a diamond-set dial, echoes the flame shape of the gems. This model comes in black satin strap fitted with 18K white gold buckle set with 12 baguette-cut diamonds. The natural, almost sensual, design takes your mind off the time, indicated here by delicately shaped hour and minute hands.
Métiers d’Art La Symbolique des Laques
The Métiers d’Art La Symbolique des Laques opus is an illustration of the alchemy between the cultural, artistic and Fine Watchmaking crafts. The series relates the encounter between the men of one of the oldest Japanese lacquer firms – Zohiko, located in Kyoto since its founding in 1661 – and those of Vacheron Constantin, the world’s oldest watch manufacture to have been producing continuously since its creation in 1755. True to the spirit of the Métiers d’Art collection, the La Symbolique des Laques series is created over three years; each year presents a new set of three watches in a limited series of twenty.
The “Kame (turtle), Kaéru (frog), Koi (carp)” watches, dedicated to the aquatic realm, present animals selected from the vast symbolic legacy of Far Eastern artistic traditions. Incarnations of longevity, luck and strength, the turtle, frog and carp disclose their attributes in stylised waters on the enamelled dials. No fewer than four months were required to make each one. Each animal lends a powerfully symbolic face to the passing of time orchestrated by the openworked version of Calibre 1003, the world’s thinnest hand-wound mechanical movement, at only 1.64 mm thick. Made in 18K gold, hand-chamfered and showcases a ruthenium finish, this caliber bears the Hallmark of Geneva.
The art of maki-e has come down through the ages without losing either its personality or its rarity. Its technical mastery is crowned by a symbolic aura that anchors it even more firmly in the collective memory, Japanese history, and the world’s artistic heritage. Each pattern depicted – whether animal, vegetable, or mineral – tells a story. In combination, they are transformed into attributes and point back to age-old legends and literary or poetic works. This year, the theme of longevity is the thread that ties the three new watches together, but more symbolically, which bears witness to the continuity of the arts and of cultures throughout the world – a continuity that Vacheron Constantin carefully perpetuates in each of its creations.
