The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie launches The Mastery of Time
Discoveries, Inventions and Advances in Horology
New York. May 2, 2012. The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) is the publisher of a major new work on the history of time measurement from its origins to the present day. The new book, The Mastery of Time, fills a void of more than half century in expert publications on the subject. Following its successful publication in Switzerland in winter 2011, “The Mastery of Time” is launched in New York on May 2, 2012 to US media and the partner brands of the Fondation.
The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie was created in 2005 to promote the heritage and values of technical and fine watchmaking throughout the world and to raise awareness of issues and trends which affect the fine watch market and its key players.
The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, which is publishing the book in conjunction with Les Editions Flammarion, is proud to present this definitive body of knowledge, researched and written by Dominique Fléchon, historian and expert in fine watches.
The Mastery of Time is a milestone in scholarship on one of the greatest adventures in the history of mankind: mastering the measurement of time.
From the gnomon to the atomic clock, the instruments of time measurement have progressed alongside mankind’s most important discoveries. In this respect, to write a history of time is to “consider Man’s genius through the prism of his conquests” as Franco Cologni, President of the FHH Cultural Council observes in the preface.
And this is precisely what the author of The Mastery of Time invites us to do, with a book that will not only satisfy the public’s desire for knowledge but which will become a major work of reference for collectors and experts.
The Mastery of Time is available in bookshops and costs $95. It has 456 pages with 400 full colour illustrations and is fully indexed.
