The most accurate of them all
The year 2012 concluded with a superb distinction for Laurent Ferrier. The Galet Classic displayed exceptional chronometric performances at the Besançon Observatory and thus became – according to the chronometric department’s annual results – the most accurate watch tested during the last 12 months. Not only is the Galet Classic the most precise watch tested during the past year, it is also in fact the most accurate since 2006! With a Vmean of 0.14 sec/day and a Vmax of 0.34 sec/day, it has achieved unrivalled results at Besançon.
The Galet Micro-Rotor hits the streets of Hong Kong
Laurent Ferrier is making a big splash with its first billboard advertising campaign! The Galet Micro-Rotor is revealing its assets in spectacular fashion at Hong Kong’s Hankow Center located at the heart of the Tsim Sha Tsui shopping district. During the months of February and March, and in cooperation with Masterpiece by King Fook, a 13-metre high, 5-metre wide billboard displays this iconic chronometer-certified watch with its hand-crafted and hand-finished self-winding movement. Watch lovers should be prepared for a stunning visual experience!
Micro-rotor calibre: the first lubricant-free natural escapement
Laurent Ferrier offers genuine alternatives to devotees of classical mechanical watchmaking thanks to a wealth of innovative technical details. With its Galet Micro-Rotor, it has developed its own pawl-fitted micro-rotor self-winding system, assisted by a double direct-impulse natural escapement. This escapement, first conceived by Abraham-Louis Breguet in the late 18th century, deserved to be adapted to modern technologies, since it now contributes to the exceptional precision of our watches. The main distinctive feature of this natural escapement lies in the fact that the impulses are applied directly to the balance “like a swing being pushed from both sides”, explains Laurent Ferrier. The transmissible energy is thus maintained at peak level.
Consistently in step with the latest technologies, Laurent Ferrier uses a silicon lever for its lightness and self-lubricating properties, as well as escape-wheels made from a nickel phosphorous alloy prized for its extreme hardness – all produced using LIGA technology. The key assets of these cutting-edge materials are a perfect surface finish and strong resistance to both wear and corrosion. Thus, for the very first time, a natural escapement requires no lubrication whatsoever.
The use of these specific materials results in an absence of friction and thus enhanced energy efficiency – which in turn ensures enhanced rating regularity and reliability. This is part of Laurent Ferrier’s overall approach to its movements, aimed at optimising automatic winding by improved energy management, the ultimate goal being to guarantee authentic wearer comfort.
