Overcoming the impossible to reach perfection; This philosophy motivated Quinting to create the first and only 100% transparent watches in the world.
Heir to the Swiss watch making tradition and avant-garde technology, Quinting is present in twenty-five countries, in most prestigious places such as Burjl-Arab in Dubai, the Hotel de Paris in Monaco, and in many cities such as Zurich, Geneva, Milan, London, New York, Beverly Hills, Moscow, Shanghai and Tokyo.
Quinting 2012
With more than a decade spent taking up challenges just as complex each one, Quinting starts 2012 with new collections both loyal to its original convictions and one more time outside the box of traditional horology.
Since 2000, when the first chronographs were launched on the market, the ingenuity of Quinting timekeepers has been well proved, thanks to the realization of traditional Swiss horology’s oldest dream: seeing the hands floating on the wrist in a 100% see-through watch.
Then, technical and aesthetic achievements continued, with the creation of the Cyclone in 2006, first movement in the world for the wristwatches compensating the Earth synergy effects. At Baselworld, in 2009, Dior introduced its first watch collection with movements exclusively designed by Quinting.
Today, innovations are still forthcoming. First with the Art Collection, within each model is a unique masterpiece hand painted with enamel. It includes the Moonlight, a limited edition of 360 pieces, in reference to the 360 degrees of longitude. The patented movement is the only one in the world truly showing the Moon phases in space.
As an extension of the Art Collection, Quinting is very pleased to present in exclusivity its Gold Art Collection whose particularity is to substitute enamel by enameled gold and crimp gemstones directly on the sapphire discs, mobile or fixed, composing the movement. The process is the same for the new Zodiac Collection, composed of twelve different designs, one per constellation of the Zodiac, where a diamond symbolizes each star.
Finally, the Metal Discs Collection offers a more accessible range because of the replacement of some sapphires by polished stainless steel discs leading to modern and dynamic models.

The Moonlight World Premiere
Quinting continues to WOW the watchmaking community with firsts: the first and only transparent watch, the first and only watch with a sapphire movement, the first and only watch with counterbalancing forces adapted to the wristwatches and then going further than the Tourbillon, once invented by Breguet for the pocket watches. Now Quinting releases yet another first: The Moonlight.
Quinting created a movement exclusively for this watch, the only “true” moon phase watch. It is the first in the world where the moon revolves around the earth, accurately showing its phases. Meanwhile, every hour a comet shoots around the earth and the moon, always ready to be wished upon.
This limited edition is composed of 360 unique pieces, representing the 360 degrees of the earth. Each piece will have a different view of the earth, painted by hand with enamel.
Then the customer can choose on which city, symbolized by a ruby crimped into the sapphire, he wants to center the Earth.
Quinting has the pleasure of certifying that this watch is a unique piece within the Art Collection.
Art Collection Watchmaking Art
“Knowledge formatting”, this is the definition of Art. Therefore, to achieve the status of the watch-making Art, it is necessary to have two skills: knowledge and formatting. Therefore, Quinting invests considerable funds in research, so in knowledge, as well as in development, i.e. in formatting, to satisfy the search for knowledge and to shape the necessary skills.
Quinting’s newest collection is the Art Collection. It gives a form to the craziest dreams of every watch enthusiast. Besides the Moonlight, the Art Collection is composed by the Cherry Blossom, whose cherry tree and its flowers symbolize femininity, the Koifish, with its five fish representing the five human senses and the Polo Player with, for the first time, a motif that you can see in the dark, thanks to the very artistic use of Superluminova. All those motifs contain mobile parts, turning with the hour sapphire or the minute one, for a watch always different as always in movement.
Gold Art Collection
As an extension of the Art Collection, Quinting launches, especially for Baselworld 2012, its Gold Art Collection. Still based on the exclusive realization of unique pieces hand painted with enamel, the Gold Art Collection magnifies the paintings with gold inserts both accurate and delicate.
Noble and precious material, gold is the most malleable and ductile metal in the world. Its resistance allows the most technical distortions and the finest ornaments. Assimilated to solar power from prehistory, gold has always been a symbol of power and fortune.
From Tutankhamun’s burial mask (ancient Egypt) to its special place in our modern monetary system, gold never stopped to stake Human life. Today, Quinting re-appropriates its values by substituting the enamel used for the Art
pieces with enameled gold.
Midas Hand
Then each piece, unique and hand painted, devotes itself to write a new page in the precious History of this metal, conferring on the one who wears it the power of a modern-day Midas, able to turn everything he touches… in gold.
Hypnose Mystery Booster
In 2012, Quinting keeps innovating. After amazing the last decade with the purity of its 100% see-through pieces, the brand now goes further on the path taken by its limited editions and the Art Collection to make the invisible visible.
Fountain of Youth
The Hypnose Collection takes up Quinting’s most
famous models and gives them a second life by substituting some sapphires by discs in polished surgical steel, in their natural color or painted. Associating steel’s urban side and sapphire nobility, the metal discs breathe a dynamic and young spirit into the pieces.
Showing the invisible
Each piece of the Hypnose Collection keeps all the mystery of transparency while showing the internal movement. Then the animation is infinitely modifiable and customizable thanks to the third dimension that Quinting only can give with the different layers we can decide to show or not. Certain pieces contain discs rotating at the speed of the hour and the minute, others at the speed of second and false second (anticlockwise).
Cigar Cutter Double-Guillotine
The cigar cutter is the first born of the Hypnose Collection. The two discs, strictly identical, represent a sharpened five-pointed star. The first one is rotating at the speed of hours and the second one, on the other side, at the speed of minutes.
Over time and the rotation of the discs, both stars become closer until they cross. Then the one who wears it can see on his wrist the mechanism of five cigar cutters perfectly synchronized with a perpetual movement.
Discovery ritual
The stage when the cigar isn’t lighted yet, when you put it out of its case, smell it and finally cut it, this step is certainly as important in the pleasure taken than the one when you smoke it. Conscious of the magical power of this discovery ritual, each cigar lover will be captivated by the slow process of the most precise of the double guillotines.
Zodiac Collection Tomorrow’s Time
Skies have always been visible to the naked eyes. However, before Galileo’s first telescope in 1609, the celestial movements remained quite mysterious. That is why humans, stuck between the solid disorder of the earth and the unachievable immensity of the sky, always provide to it much more than they received.
The 12 signs of the Zodiac
In this twelfth year of the third millennium, Quinting revisits the twelve Zodiac signs. Celestial symbols par excellence, they are a proof that an order, even unstable, exists. That we can believe in a balance between the very small and the very big capable to restore human identity within cosmos.
Diamond Stars
With its Zodiac Collection, Quinting launches twelve different models, one for each sign of the Zodiac (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces). As with the Telescopium model (showing the Big Bear), diamonds, hand-crimped on the sapphires, here symbolize the stars of each constellation.
Master its destiny
Tanks to the grace carried by a Quinting watch of the Zodiac Collection, the one who wears it can realize that he can find his own balance at hand, just waiting for him to master his destiny.
The history of Quinting When the dream comes true
Every Swiss watchmaker knows that making a 100% transparent watch is impossible, only the engineers of Quinting watchmakers did not know.
To create an entirely transparent watch, an entirely mysterious watch, was a dream that the greatest brains of watch-making have tried to realize for a century. Many of them, including the most prestigious watch manufactures, have tried to give life to this project, but all attempts were in vain. The mystery of transparency stayed impenetrable and the watch-making world agreed to assert that the creation of a totally transparent movement would remain an unreachable dream... until the arrival of Quinting.
1993: the challenge of transparency, those marvelous crazy watchmakers
“Challenge,” “defy,” “overcome the impossible,” these were the motivational words of the five engineers who decided to pluck the dream of all Swiss watchmakers, seeing the hands floating in watch.
The five engineers, all passionate about horology – three watch makers, one automotive engineer, and one electromechanical research engineer, Pascal Berclaz, current President of Quinting – decided to pool their knowledge and expertise to attempt to achieve the impossible: create a completely transparent chronograph.
The challenge was launched and the objective secured: render invisible the mechanism that indicates time. One of the craziest adventures in the history of horology was therefore started.
Quinting Watch manufacture was created in Geneva by the five engineers who left behind the ordinary of horology to finally explore worlds of the aero spatial, the optical, and the automobile. The knowledge and understanding taken from these different domains allowed these engineers to pierce the mysteriousness of a complication, to know transparence.
1999: The dream comes true
7 years of research and development were necessary to take on the challenge and in 1999 the first prototype of a totally transparent chronograph with a sapphire movement, unique to the world was created. This feat was immediately awarded by the prestigious “Prix Officiel de la Revue des Montres.”
2000: launch of the first Quinting watches on the market
This young company needed to get over one last obstacle, to go from having simply a prototype, to the production of this incredible watch. Its components were totally different from those of a traditional watch, and required to be made to measure by retailers external to the classical watch-making world.
This critical step was conquered thanks to the impetus of the research engineer Pascal Berclaz. The first Quinting watches appeared on the market in 2000.
Quinting’s Movement The mystery of transparency, the magic of Quinting watches
An invisible heart beats to the rhythm of time
Quinting belongs to the elite of watch-making, to the very small circle of watch brands which produce their own movements and therefore owning the status of watch-making Manufacture. Therefore all the components of this movement are created exclusively for Quinting and are assembled by hand, as by the most pure tradition of Swiss watch-making, in the manufacture in Geneva.
Furthermore, Quinting watches are impossible to copy because they are until now the only one in the world able to have developed and patented a totally revolutionary movement made up of transparent sapphires.
Decoding a unique movement in the world: sapphire wheels
Quinting’s movement is composed of a superposition of sapphire discs, some of which are stationary and others mobile. They are metalized and given an anti-reflection coating. The system is very complicated and requires extreme precision because the parallelism between each layer needs to be absolutely perfect, the distance between each sapphire measures 0,08 to 0,1 millimeters.
The concentricity of the sapphires used by Quinting is so important that the limits of precision that today’s machines and tools can obtain have been reached. So that the movement can function properly, the precision necessary is at a micron level. The optical material required for assembling the sapphires is an ultra-sophisticated tool, because to assemble a Quinting watch, 100% precision is necessary, contrary to other movements where an 80% precision is sufficient. Using sapphire requires such an extreme precision because this stone, contrary to metal, is not elastic. Employing a microscope is necessary in the assembly of sapphires, especially because some of the movements consist of a superposition of 11 sapphires.
Quinting’s sapphire, a precious stone with exemplary purity
The sapphire is recognized to be, after the diamond, the hardest precious stone. The Quinting sapphire is the only one in the world able to turn in a watch; this proves the level of quality and flawlessness of the chosen stones. It is the reason why Quinting buys its sapphires exclusively from precious stone merchants. The cutting of the sapphire also needs to be irreproachable; the concentricity of the stone requires perfection to permit to the movement to run correctly. The processes used by Quinting for this very precise step are the same as those used by the precious stone merchants.
Knowledge and mastery of materials
The world of Haute Horology, including the most complex movements in the world, uses serrated discs composed entirely of metal. For an everlasting movement, Quinting watch manufacture created wheels made of three materials: sapphire, metal,
rubber, a principle close to that of a car tire, an innovation that we owe to our automotive engineer. Each disc has a serrated
metal ring that is linked to the sapphire by an ultra-fine rubber band.
Perfection is the master word of the manufacture Quinting to the point that it became one of the ingredients of its corporate philosophy
Quinting’s Movement Avant-garde assembly conditions
An automatic time reset in case of shock
This peculiarity, unique to Quinting, has the effect of considerably raising the life of the wheels, improving their grip and therefore obtaining an extreme precision in the display of the time.
Quinting developed a very sophisticated assembly infrastructure, reproducing the extreme conditions of sterilization in surgical suites. In effect, the procedure of assembling the mechanism is realized in a white room, exempt of the smallest particle of dust, to assure a perfect transparence.
Quinting has created a unique system that is able to readjust the wheels of chronograph counter and permits, in case of shock, an automatic time reset of the watch. This mechanism allows one to avoid sending the timepiece back to the watch maker like with other brands.
Many horological masterpieces are hidden in museums due to the extreme fragility of their movements. How many owners of some of the greatest complications were obliged to return their jewels to the watchmakers because of the defective wheels? To solve this, Quinting’s manufacture placed a mysterious watchmaker inside the watch, able to readjust the wheels of the
chronograph counters in case of big shocks. To realize this feat, the wheels were assembled on clutches allowing the wheels to disengage. When the watch has undergone a shock and the hands of the chronograph are no longer at 12, the mechanism has automatically disengaged. To engage the wheels again the push button needs only to be pressed and as if by magic the mysterious chronograph will readjust the counters at the exact time.
