A. LANGE & SÖHNE - A unique timepiece for an automobile design icon

Le 28-05-2013
de A. Lange & Söhne, Branch of Richemont International SA

A. Lange & Söhne presents the one-of-a-kind LANGE 1 TIME ZONE to the winner of this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.

The prize ranks among the most coveted trophies of the eminent competition in the domain of classic automobiles. On Sunday, 26 May 2013, the US-American fashion designer Ralph Lauren received the jury's "Best of Show" prize in Como. Lange CEO Wilhelm Schmid handed over to him a special model of the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE crafted exclusively for this event for his Bugatti 57 SC Atlantic Coupé with a coachwork from Jean Bugatti built in 1938.

The watch was presented to the winner within the scope of a gala dinner at Villa d'Este, the venue of the Concorso d'Eleganza, which is deemed to be one of the most exclusive events dedicated to historic automobiles and concept cars. In his laudatory speech, Wil-helm Schmid commended the event for the contemporary aura with which it expresses the human quest for eternal beauty. As a sculpture for the wrist, he added, the LANGE 1 TIME ZONE is a fitting prize for the most beautiful sculpture on wheels. Because it indi-cates two time zones, the watch also stands for the art of travelling in style. The caseback
of the white-gold watch displays the hand-engraved coat of arms of the Concorso d'Ele-ganza. On the rotatable city ring, Como represents Central European Time – as homage to the venue.

This is the second year for A. Lange & Söhne as a sponsor of the "Festival of Beauty" which has taken place on the shoreline of Lake Como since 1929. The Saxon watch-making company has gained many friends in the realm of historic automobiles. For Lange, the event has proven to be a perfect match alongside its other cultural commit-ments. On a friendly spring weekend, numerous VIP guests and visitors expressed their enthusiasm for technology, style, and elegance.

About A. Lange & Söhne
When Ferdinand A. Lange, a Dresden watchmaker, established his watch manufactory in 1845, he laid the cornerstone of Saxony’s precision watchmaking. His precious pocket watches remain highly coveted among collectors all over the world. The company was expropriated after World War II, and the name A. Lange & Söhne nearly fell into oblivion. In 1990, Ferdinand A. Lange’s great-grandson Walter Lange had the courage to relaunch the brand. Today, Lange crafts only a few thousand wristwatches in gold or platinum per year. They are endowed exclusively with proprietary movements that are lavishly decorated and assembled by hand. In a period of little more than 20 years, A. Lange & Söhne developed over 40 manufacture calibres and secured a top-tier position among the world’s finest watch brands. Its greatest successes include innovative time-keeping instruments such as the LANGE 1 with the first outsize date in a series produced wristwatch as well as the LANGE ZEITWERK with its supremely legible, precisely jumping numerals. Meanwhile, both models have become icons of a brand rich in tradition.
