The foremost Fine Watch Maisons have the privilege of demonstrating their unique expertise at WATCHES&WONDERS, held 25th to 28th September 2013 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
Inspired by spectacular growth in the Asian markets, these thirteen Fine Watchmakers are at WATCHES&WONDERS, the first event of its kind in Asia. This inaugural edition is dedicated to Asia's many collectors and connoisseurs of fine timepieces. Each Maison presents its specificity and latest creations to this knowledgeable audience, and shares its fascinating history and wealth of expertise inside an exceptional setting.
"WATCHES&WONDERS provides a rare opportunity to meet the creators and craftsmen behind fine timepieces, and a chance to experience firsthand the cultural heritage of one of Europe's most exquisite traditions," declared Fabienne Lupo, Chairwoman and Managing Director of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, organiser of the event.
Some forty professions bring Fine Watches to life in all their dazzling complexity and beauty. At WATCHES&WONDERS, demonstrations by some of these highly specialized craftsmen and women, including watchmakers, engravers, enamellers and gem-setters, give a glimpse of the expertise inside the world of Fine Watchmaking.
An exhibition, titled The Mastery of Time, chronicles the history of time measurement in some one hundred timepieces, on loan from Swiss museums and the private collections of the exhibiting Maisons.
Today, Asia is the number-one market for Swiss watches. In 2012, exports to China totalled CHF 1.6 billion, CHF 4.1 billion to Hong Kong, and CHF 2.4 billion to South-East Asia. Purchases by Asian customers when travelling abroad are also growing.
These centuries of history now converge in WATCHES&WONDERS, a showcase for the excellence and innovation of this European tradition in direct contact with Asia today.
