Employees of French jeweler and watchmaker Cartier (owned by Richemont Group) at Cartier Joaillerie unit in Reims (France) have entered ther third day of strike, bringing to a halt the production. Over 80% of the employees are reported to have joined the strike action.
Cartier employees demand increase of salaries, currently being paid at the minimum national wage (SMIC) as well as the regularization of RTT – reduction of working hours. In a press release Cartier Jewelry International has “expressed its strong disappointment and misunderstanding after the failure of talks with the CGT union representative. but said remains open for discussions.”
The Unions have threatened that, unless a deal is reached until Friday, employees will stage public demonstrations in Palace Vendome, the heart of Paris’ jewellers.
