The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie at SalonQP in London with Horology, A Child of Astronomy.
7 to 9 November 2013, for the fifth edition of SalonQP in London, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie (FHH) will present Horology, A Child of Astronomy. This exhibition will draw parallels between the celestial bodies and the measurement of time by reminding us that days, months and years result from Man's observations of the stars.
From the earliest times to the present day, horologists have created representations of the Cosmos, first as scientific instruments and now objects of desire for astronomers and enthusiasts alike.
This fascinating story of the Sun, Earth, Moon and Universe will give visitors a finer understanding of the astronomical complications which are now transposed to the wristwatch, with moon phases, perpetual calendars, annual calendars and many other equally fascinating mechanisms which convey the magic and mystery of the universe. The exhibition celebrates the genius of revolutionary thinkers and of those who continue to show that a watch is far more than just an object that gives the time; it is the product of a fabulous human adventure.
