Montegrappa is delighted to announce a special presentation of the Montegrappa ‘Icons’ Ayrton Senna Limited Edition in the company of Formula One Legend and Montegrappa Ambassador, Board Member and Shareholder, Jean Alesi. The presentation will take place on Monday, 31st March from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at our stand in BaselWorld. As space will be limited, those who wish to attend this special presentation must confirm their attendance by sending an e-mail to: contact@montegrappa.com
To honour Senna, in the year that marks the 20th Anniversary of his legacy, Montegrappa will issue a series of pens that encapsulate his spirit and his style. The Ayrton Senna Icons pens will be offered as fountain pens, roller balls and ballpoints in jet-black resin, in a series of 1960 pieces each to mark the year of his birth. A solid sterling silver edition with cap and barrel engraved in low-relief will be available in a limited edition of 610 examples each as fountain pens and roller balls, representing his tally of championship points. To complete the collection, there is an exclusive solid gold version comprised of 20 fountain pens and 20 roller balls, which represent his career of 20 years as a racing driver.
A colleague, personal friend and competitor who raced against Ayrton Senna, Jean Alesi has kindly offered to join the two worlds of Formula One and Montegrappa at this special event.
Embodying the best elements of both the Italian and French zest for life, Jean is blessed with natural driving ability. The young Alesi started his career in karting, graduating to single seaters and winning the 1987 French Formula 3 title. Two years later, in only his second season in International F3000, he would capture the championship. His Formula One debut took place in the 1989 French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, driving a Tyrrell-Cosworth, finishing fourth and scoring points in that year’s Italian and Spanish Grands Prix.
It was the start of a long, colourful and eventful career, with a win at the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on his 31st birthday. In 2001, Jean became only the fifth driver to start 200 Grand Prix races, achieving thirty-two podiums. In 2007, he was knighted by Jacques Chirac, as a knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour (“Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur”).
In 2009, Jean joined Montegrappa as a shareholder and member of the board for public relations, which has allowed the racing legend to address, as he puts it, his “passion for all things hand-made.” As a consultant with design input, as well as an ambassador for the brand, Jean is, “for the first time, in a business which is not a racing business! I am happy and honoured to be associated with a company that is over 100 years old … and Italian!”

Eva Marton
We at Montegrappa are pleased to have presented to the acclaimed Hungarian soprano, Éva Marton, the “Montegrappa Emozioni in Musica Rigoletto” rollerball. Mme. Marton, a dear friend of Montegrappa, is a notable figure in the Hungarian opera scene and is currently the head of Department of Dramatic Arts of the Hungarian Academy of Arts. The pen was presented to her at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in December in the presence of Sandor Rácz, the owner of Viktoria-R pen specialist shop in Hévíz.
Mme. Marton was born in Budapest, and studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music from 1962 to 1968, graduating with opera singer and vocal coach degrees. She has performed at the greatest opera houses in the world, including Teatro alla Scala in Milano, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, as well as venues in Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston, Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Moscow, Paris and Sydney, to name but a few. In addition to her performances in celebrated concert halls, she has appeared at numerous festivals around the world, and participates regularly at charity galas.
Mme. Marton is known for her interpretations of Verdi, Puccini, R. Strauss and Wagner, and she has always been a fan of the school of Verismo. For more than 25 years, she has been counted among the greatest voices the world has ever seen. Thanks to her vast repertoire, she has provided music lovers with over 30 opera recordings as well as aria and concert recordings, not to mention numerous video, laser and DVD recordings made in recent years.
Of herself, Mme. Marton says, “One of the most significant components of a portrayal is the personality … I always put my own conception across ... I have always taken on the characteristics of my Turandot, my Tosca, my Gioconda and my Brünnhilde. I have never wished to be similar to the others and I have never wished to be different than I am.”
The Rigoletto Pens
The design of the Rigoletto pen immediately recalls the attire of the traditional court jester, a harlequin pattern of red, white and black diamond shapes that can be attributed to no other character. The body and the all-red cap are made of resin, the body itself requiring the use of the diffusion bonding technique to create its mosaic effect. All trims are made of solid silver or solid gold, according to the model.
A handmade black and red glass “murrina” on top of the red cap was inspired by the puffy sleeves and pantaloons that comprise a harlequin’s garb, while the pocket clip is styled in the manner of the jester’s footwear. Montegrappa’s logo is engraved around the wide ring at the bottom of the cap.
Montegrappa’s Rigoletto consists of sterling silver and solid 18k yellow gold versions, the fountain pen nibs formed of solid 18k gold. The Limited Edition is comprised of only 900 fountain pens, 900 rollerballs with sterling silver trim and 31 fountain pens and 21 roller balls with solid 18K gold trim, a total of 1851 pens.
Since 1912, for more than a century, Montegrappa has been manufacturing high-quality writing instruments in the same historic building in Bassano del Grappa, North East Italy.
