IWC Schaffhausen celebrates 75th anniversary of Portugieser at SIHH

Le 19-01-2015
de IWC Schaffhausen, Branch of Richemont International SA

IWC Schaffhausen is proud to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Portugieser watch family whose new collection comes with attractive technological and design modifications, as well as new features. As IWC is developing more of its own in-house movements, it plans to launch three new calibre families in the years ahead. Initiating this move is the 52000-calibre family, which is found in four models from the new Portugieser collection: the Annual Calendar (Ref. 5035), the Automatic (Ref. 5007), the Perpetual Calendar with Single Moon (Ref. 5033) and the Perpetual Calendar with Double Moon (Ref. 5034).

COLLECTION HIGHLIGHTS
The new Portugieser Annual Calendar (Ref. 5035) is IWC’s first annual calendar. The complication is powered by the new IWC-manufactured 52850 calibre and symbolizes the launch of an IWC initiative to produce further series of in-house calibre families in the years ahead. The month, date and day are shown in three separate, semi-circular windows at “12 o’clock”. Unlike a perpetual calendar, the annual calendar is unable to factor in the differing length of the month of February or the leap years, and requires a correction that can be carried out easily and conveniently using the crown.

For the first time, the IWC-patented perpetual digital calendar has been introduced in the Portugieser line. The Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Edition “75th Anniversary” (Ref. 3972) is characterized by its large digital date, month and year display and a user-friendly, full operation via the crown. The 89801 calibre has a perpetual calendar featuring a leap year indicator and quick-action switch for the large displays, and a chronograph with flyback function. The timepiece comes with Santoni straps and the new integrated bent strap attachment.

The Portugieser Hand-Wound Eight Days Edition “75th Anniversary” (Ref. 5102) is the second 75th anniversary edition and reminiscent of the original Portugieser (Ref. 325) from the 1930s. All design elements of the historic Portugieser have been carefully adopted with the only extra being the date display underneath the small second. The timepiece convinces with its in-house 59215-calibre and a very long power reserve of eight days. The red gold reference is exclusively limited to 175 watches, while the steel case, ardoise dial variant is limited to 750 pieces.
